Two artists, one Ivorian and the other Liberian, each expressing his vision of the world and united by the same passion for their art generously decided to show their works together for an exhibition that they named NO BORDER. "We do not practice the same language, we do not use the same techniques or the same artistic expression, but art is universal and does not know borders" say they.
Méné, born in Abidjan in 1977, graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts of Abidjan is a visual artist influenced by rock painting. He makes his this ancient expression and draws on the past for understanding his present better. His elementary constructions immerse us in a universe of dream, recklessness and games and sends us back to the nostalgia of our own childhood. "Originally there was only innocence and purity", this vision guides the artist in his work and takes him to the minimalism of shapes and the sobriety of colors. Méné lives and works in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).
Born in 1970 in Dambala (Liberia), Leslie graduated from the Booker Washington Institute of Architecture in Kataka, Liberia. As a self-taught painter, his career has not always been a "quiet long river". As writers use their pens as a weapon, Leslie uses brushes and pencils to denounce the drifts of a Liberian regime in the torments of civil war. Threatened, he was forced into exile in Côte d'Ivoire where he spent about a decade. Back to his country, he chaired the Association of Liberian Artists, opened the first art gallery in Monrovia (Art of the Heart) and the Visual Art Academy (LivArt) to teach plastic arts to the youth of his country. With small brush strokes, he paints women washing on the edge of a stream surrounded by trees, bamboo huts reflecting the ocher of laterite, busy children playing with car tires, loaded fruit or calabashes vendors heading to the nearest market, so many everyday scenes, small gestures that are so precious and give all their beauty to every day’s life. Leslie lives and works in Monrovia (Liberia).
