8.12.2016 – 28.01.2017

BABITOPIE, the collaboration of Jean-Servais Somian and Ana Zulma, combining design and hybrid photography, testifies, with this unusual artistic marriage, the multidisciplinary character of contemporary art, the diversity and richness of the artistic expression and confirms the generosity of artists’ sensitive souls.

Initiated by Simone Guirandou-N'Diaye, always guided by her heart choices, the exhibition BABITOPIE gives to see singular, atypical and ambitious creations.

Association of BABI: the sweet name of the city of Abidjan and UTOPIA: chimera, imaginary construction of an ideal reality, BABITOPIE transports us to this fabulous dreamless city without blemish. Through the works presented it takes us away from the present and reveals other forms and ways of life.

The two artists, marked by the eruptions of violence in their towns of origin or adoption, want, like the hummingbirds, to do their part for a better world and bet on positive thinking. Combining their differences and inspired by the way they look at the city and the streets, Somian and Zulma offer us images and soft lines, saturated colors and rare essences alongside improbable everyday materials, the violent beauty of reinvented childhood and refuge in voluptuous boxes, the poetry of dreams and the return to the aesthetics of the primitive arts.
