“Silence is a language. It talks of presence, introspection, and inner strength. I wanted to capture that suspended moment when the soul speaks without sound.” — Alun Be

  • In a world saturated with sounds, notifications, and constant stimulation, (Re)Silence by Alun Be offers a moment to breathe. Through this photographic series, the Senegalese artist questions the place of silence in our lives—and what it reveals about us.

(Re)Silence is a reflection on inner calm, the strength of presence, and the beauty of stillness. Each portrait seems suspended in an undefined space-time, between introspection and light : Alun Be captures silent moments.

At the heart of this series is a little girl in a red dress, the thread that leading us through the entire exhibition. Through her posture, gaze, and near-theatrical stillness, she embodies innocence and wisdom. She becomes a symbol of transmission, purity, and hope.

True to his multidisciplinary approach, Alun Be composes his works like paintings. Photography becomes a poetic narrative surface. He plays with light, textures, gestures—but most of all, with space and breath. Silence becomes a medium in itself, carrying emotion, purpose, and introspection.

Beyond aesthetics, (Re)Silence celebrates the dignity, depth and resilience of figures often reduced to invisibility. It is an ode to introspection, to slowness, but also to the modernity of an African vision that affirms its own narrative.

  • About Alun Be

Alun Be is a Franco-Senegalese multidisciplinary visual artist, born in 1981 in Dakar. He works across photography, sculpture, and music, exploring themes such as silence, identity, and cultural transmission.

Originally trained as an architect, he discovered photography early on as a powerful language—one that merges memory, introspection, and activism. His works, marked by a contemporary and minimalist aesthetic, reflect a deeply human and sensitive vision of the world.

Shaped by a life between Senegal, the United States, and Europe, Alun Be has developed a cross-disciplinary practice where each medium informs the other. His work has been featured in major art fairs, museums, and galleries worldwide, and is included in several private and institutional collections.
