Ange Dakouo:
Born in 1990, Ange Dakouo graduated from the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Multimédia of Bamako. He lives and works in Bamako (Mali).
He works accross painting, video, sculpture and installation. His approach focuses on the Malian cultural heritage, that of the Dozo hunters - custodians of ancestral mystical knowledge. It is with meticulous care that Dakouo, inspired by the amulets used as protection by this brotherhood, creates his wooven installations showing originilatity and a rigor of great maturity.
Showcased internationally, his works entered several private and public collections, including those of the Rotschild Foundation (Switzeerland), the Fondation H (Madagascar and France), the Fondation Blachère (France and Senegal) and the ARNDT collection (Germany and Australia).
“My technique, which I call 'woven gris-gris', is inspired by the amulets worn by traditional Malian hunters: the Dozos. I personalize my gris-gris with cardboard, newspapers, then weave them together to create a harmonious universe, through which the gris-gris represent people meant to protect each other.” (Ange Dakouo)
