Faten Rouissi is deeply challenged by civic reality and its complex mazes. The socio-political environment of her country and her regard at the World mark her art. From Carthage, where Faten Rouissi has her ArtStudio, her protean work takes her to multiple horizons. Her vast and particular contextual work questions society, current events and media excesses.
Faten, born in 1967 in Tunis, followed a complete academic career: Master's degree in Graphic Design, DEA in Plastic Arts and Doctorate in Art Theory. In addition to her multidisciplinary practice, Faten is Assistant Professor at the National School of Architecture and Urban Planning (ENAU) in Tunis.
Her artworks appear in various collections such as that of the Badisches Landesmuseeum in Karlsruhe, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the Benetton Collection, the Trapani Museum, the Dakar City Hall, the Ministry of Culture of Tunisia and of Egypt. Faten has initiated multiple artistic actions in public space in Tunisia: Art in the street-Art in the neighborhood, Bye-bye Bakchich System, De Colline en Colline (From hill to hill).
In 2023, she participated to the “Traversées Africaines” project in Paris with the African Gallery, and in 2024, she is part of the official selection of the Dakar 2024 Contemporary African Art Biennial. In 2014, Faten Rouissi was selected for the same biennial and received the City of Dakar Prize.
