Born in 1990 in Bamako (Mali), Dramane Toloba graduated from the Conservatoire des Arts de Bamako (Mali). Raised in an environment that values the recovery and reuse of objects, Dramane is now guided by an ecological spirit, both in his choice of materials and his subjects. On his canvases, he recovers and combines fabrics, paint, paper and even paper clips.
Committed to recycling and against over-consumption, Dramane is also a dreamer. His often feminine lamp-headed figures are omnipresent in his creations, underlining the essential role played by women in Malian society. They are a call to the part of light in every individual and underline the invasive nature of technology in our lifestyles. His colourful, dreamlike creations express both his refusal to give in to pessimism and his commitment to the causes he holds dear.
