Born in Velingara (Senegal) in 1987, Khéraba Traoré studied at the National School of Arts in Dakar, where he now teaches animation. His artistic universe is centred on children's rights. He explores the many aspects of their daily lives and expresses their emotions by depicting their world. These complex and delicate beings are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him.
In each of his paintings, Khéraba's gesture is spontaneous, liberating and uninhibited. His line is simple and assertive, and the bright colours and newspaper collages blend together to reveal the silhouettes of children. In this series, which combines collage and engraving, the colours become darker, inspired by cave art. Red stripes cut through the black and white, condemning violence against children. Their poetry and playfulness are central to his work, as are the difficult conditions in which they live, and adults' threats to their rights.
